Why should my group join COCA?
There is no obligation, or cost to joining the Circle of Conservation Advisors. What you get is a chance for greater visibility and another platform to help you reach out to the public from. The more groups that join COCA, the more our voices will be magnified and the more the theme of conservation will be a major part of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial. Your commitment can be as small as lending us your name in saying you support the conservation of the trail environment, or as large as taking an active role in our Signature Events. At these events you could canvass on the issues that you work on, and co-sponsor speakers, hikes, and other activities that raise awareness about conserving and restoring the trail environment. The recent event in Omaha drew 60,000 people so Signature Events present a great opportunity for public outreach.
Signature Events will be backed by an Ad Council campaign which will drive people to the COCA website. Being linked as a COCA partner from the website should help to generate hits on your site and may lead to new volunteers and donors.
As soon as you join, you will receive a packet of information including a free Sierra Club video documentary on the land that the explorers traveled through, a book by naturalist Daniel Botkin, and a Lewis and Clark poster featuring a map of the main regions of the trail and conservation issues associated with these areas. You will also receive an occasional newsletter and we will be in touch about more opportunities as the signature event near you draws closer.
