The Lewis & Clark Landscapes Project
The Lewis & Clark Landscapes Project is a conservation effort to ensure the public protection of at least 4,000 acres of land in the Columbia Gorge by the start of the 2004, approximately the time the Lewis & Clark Bicentennial Commemoration begins in the Pacific Northwest. The Columbia River Gorge, situated between Oregon and Washington, is a national treasure that arguably ranks as the most distinctive stretch of the Lewis & Clark Trail. Recent federal legislation in the Gorge has created an opportunity for greater public acquisition of critical lands than was ever imagined.
