At 3700 miles, Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail is the second longest of the National Park Service' 23 National Scenic & National Historic Trails. Today's trail follows their route as closely as possible given the changes over the years. It begins near Wood River, Illinois, and passes through portions of Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. The Trail is managed through numerous partnerships. Various organizations and individuals are responsible for trail stewardship with oversight provided by the Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail headquarters in Omaha, NE.
